Russia Uses Veto to Stop British Resolution Aiming Yemen

Russia used On Wednesday, its veto against a British draft resolution in the UN Security Council, after a special session on Yemen.

The statement, according to diplomatic sources, called on the National Salvation Government in Sana’a to stop what the UK described as an “attack on Marib.”

Russia’s representative to the Security Council said the British project was “unbalanced and unprofessional.”

This is the first time that the Security Council has emerged divided on Yemen. The veto comes as a relief to Sana’a, whose officials have criticized the British and Us talk of an “attack on Marib” as a propaganda attempt pretending that Yemen was the instigator of this war.

In reality, Marib has seen battle since the very beginning of the Saudi invasion of Yemen in 2015, when Saudi forces occupied the city.
