Sana’a Warns of Looming Humanitarian Disaster

General Establishment for Water and Sanitation in the Capital Sana’a, has warned of catastrophic consequences if the sewage treatment plant ceases to operate due to running out of fuel, which will lead to widespread epidemics and diseases.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the foundation indicated that the continued detention of oil derivatives vessels will lead to the suspension of more than 70 wells pumping about 1.150,000 cubic meters per month.

More than seven million citizens and displaced persons in the capital will be deprived of drinking water, the statement said, as well as the suspension of the equipment and mechanisms of the foundation’s water and sanitation networks, as well as the suspension of water supply to hospitals and sanitation facilities.
