Fierce Conflicts Erupt in Balhaf Gas Facility

Violent confrontations erupted on Sunday in front of the Balhaf gas facility in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen.

According to local sources, the clashes came after leaders of the UAE-funded “Shabwani Elite” militia refused to recruit hundreds of sons of Al-Awaliq tribe that Awad Al-Wazir, appointed by the UAE as the governor of the province, is belonging to.

Al-Wazir is heading to establish a military force to remain under his supervision in Ataq city.

The confrontations, with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council forces, came after Al-Wazir held images of the former president Ali Saleh inside the STC’s headquarters.
