Six UN Staff Members Kidnapped in Abyan

Unidentified gunmen kidnapped a number of UN workers on Friday in Abyan province, southern Yemen, local sources told Yemen Press Agency (YPA) said.

According to local sources, six staff members of a UN organization, one of them Bulgarian and five Yemenis, were abducted by unidentified gunmen Mudiyah- al-Khadyra road in Abyan, which is controlled by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) troops.

The sources said the gunmen transported UN staff to an unknown destination with the car in which they were travelling, without commenting on the incident by the United Nations.

The International Rescue Committee, which works in the field of relief, announced the suspension of its humanitarian activities in Abyan in early February 2021, after two of its vehicles were looted by unidentified gunmen in the Lawdar directorate.
