International Obstacles of Peace Efforts in Yemen

The international community ended a tour that UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grodenberg, was seeking to conduct, as part of his efforts to achieve a breakthrough in the war file before it begins, to set the future of peace in a country that has been ravaged by war and siege for seven years and is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

Exclusive-Alkhabar alyemeni:

Grodenberg started a new tour in the region from the Saudi capital. During his last briefing at the Security Council, he promised to put forward peace initiatives according to four tracks; he has already met with the Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber.

Regardless of the discussion that focused, according to Saudi media, on the rejection of what the ambassador described them as “Houthis” for peace, international parties, including the Security Council, had torpedoed all efforts by voting on a draft resolution submitted by UAE, who is currently chairing the Council at its current session, it is the second most important country in the Saudi-led war on Yemen.

The decision, although it will only achieve a media achievement, according to what Sana’a sees, will bring the war countries to war. However, it may complicate Grodenberg’s efforts to woo Sana’a, who since taking office, Sana’a refused to allow him to visit the capital, which may lose its importance as an international envoy and end his future early.

The international steps in the Security Council, which are governed by interests, indicate the absence of an international direction to support peace in Yemen. Especially after the emergence of international parties, such as Russia which concluded an agreement with UAE regarding Ukraine, the Yemeni file is subject to bargaining according to special interests and agendas linked to the current international conflict.

The decision that neutralizes the largest and most effective Yemeni forces on the ground may also create a gap in the peace negotiations, which western and regional countries are keen to push its wheel, while increasing the frequency of obstacles.
