Blockage in Negotiations and Military Escalation… Armistice at a Crossroads

The truce in Yemen entered, on Monday, a dangerous turn, as it approached to its end, amid signs of a political blockage and a military escalation.

Exclusive-alkhabar alyemeni:

The fighting fronts in Taiz witnessed an escalation in confrontations during the past hours for the first time since the start of the truce several months ago.

Although Taiz confrontations are part of a wide map of violations, according to Sana’a, however, Islah is trying, through escalation, to put pressure there, to put Taiz file on the table for the new round of negotiations, after excluded by United Nations, according to Abdul Karim Shaiban, head of the party’s delegation to the Jordan negotiations.

Shaiban indicated in a tweet on his official page on social media that the United Nations did not summon them to the meeting of the Military Committee, which revolves around violations and extending armistice.

On the other hand, Sana’a Military Committee announced its adherence to three basic conditions for extending the armistice, the Yemeni news agency, Saba, quoted on the committee as stressing on the need to lift restrictions on the movement of ships arriving at Hodeida port as well as flights to Sana’a airport and the payment of salaries.

According to the statement, the committee reviewed the coalition’s military and political violations the last of which was boycotting his committee to attend the current negotiation sessions in Jordan.

These developments come in parallel with an international movement to pressure towards an agreement that extends the extension of the armistice for a longer period; it indicates that the truce is on the way to collapse before it completes its second month.
