Abyan: Confrontations between STC Forces and al-Qaeda

A number of militants were killed and others wounded on Tuesday, in the first confrontations between the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias and al-Qaeda terrorist organization in Abyan province, southern Yemen, Southern media reported, citing medical sources.

According to the sources, Yasser Abu Shayea, commander of 1st battalion in the 1st Brigade to counter-terrorism was killed in addition to eight others of his companions who were killed or injured.

On the other hand, pro-STC media released photos of three dead wearing al-Qaeda uniform, claiming that they were killed during the confrontations.

Earlier in the day, al-Qaeda launched an attack on a post belonging to the UAE-backed militia in the coastal district of Ahwar.
