At least four million, five hundred thousand people suffer from disabilities in Yemen since the war on Yemen began in 2015, according to ICRC
The International Committee of the Red Cross in Yemen revealed in its report on Wednesday that about 15% of Yemen’s population, or approximately 4.5 million people, suffer from disability.
The report stated that at least 460,500 people need assistive devices to help them move, while 153,500 others need prostheses or orthotics.
It pointed out that Yemen suffers from a lack and divergence of services after its health care system have been destroyed by the war on Yemen for the past several decades and the lack of education in the field of prosthetics and orthotics, with the great shortage of qualified professionals to support people with physical disabilities.
Moreover, German DW channel had stated that the number of people with disabilities due to the war in Yemen “exceeds the population of one of the neighboring Gulf countries.”
Several the international organizations in Yemen have admitted also that the number of victims resulting from the war and the blockade that Yemen being exposed to much more than the numbers and statistics provided by the organizations’ reports.
