House of Representatives in Sana’a listened on Tuesday to the response of the Minister of Health, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, regarding the death of a number of children due to the spread of diseases and epidemics, including measles and polio.
According to Saba news agency, the minister stated that vaccines being available in all health centers designated for that, pointing to the exacerbation of health problems due to the repercussions of the war and blockade, including malnutrition and low immunity due to the lack of nutritional components and the psychological condition of children.
Al-Mutawakel said between 150 to 170 children die daily as a result of worsening of the health situation because of the continued war, the blockade and the economic war, which is reflected in the living conditions of the Yemeni family.
Meanwhile, members of the parliament stressed the need for the Ministry of Health to play its role in monitoring the spread of diseases and epidemics, including those related to measles and polio, and providing precautionary measures and vaccines in accordance with the immunization programs approved by going to the homes of citizens according to mechanisms and plans prepared and implemented by the ministry in the capital, Sana’a, and the provinces.
They stressed the importance of increasing society’s awareness immunizing children with vaccines, pointing out that there are medical laboratories that can subject these vaccines to examination and testing to ensure their effectiveness and thwart any attempts targeting the lives of Yemeni children and families.
