Sana’a – Saba News Agency:
16 civilians were killed and injured due to the aggression’s remnants in various provinces over the first ten days of August 2023, according to the Executive Center for Mine Action.
According to a statement the center provided to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), landmine explosions and cluster bombs in the provinces of Sa’ada, Sana’a, Al-Bayda, Al-Jawf, and Al-Hudaydah resulted in the deaths of nine civilians and seven other injuries, including five children.
The statement confirmed that because of the aggression’s remnants, including mines and cluster bombs, the center records daily casualties.
It went on to say that despite mine action accounting for 50% of the humanitarian response plan for the year 2023, the UN has kept the center’s operations entirely suspended since April of this year until today. The statement confirmed the availability of dedicated funding for demining operations from the Humanitarian Fund.
The statement made an urgent plea to David Gressly, the UN’s Yemeni humanitarian coordinator, and the OCHA office to urgently intervene and reconsider the decision to halt mine and cluster bomb-related operations, which cause an increase in casualties every day.
The Executive Center, in its statement, demanded urgent and humanitarian solutions be found that protect citizens, men, women, and children, as well as secure the return of the displaced. This is a right among the rights of Yemeni societies.
