UNICEF: situation of Gaza children is “catastrophic.”

Salim Owais, regional spokesperson of Middle East and North Africa at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), said that the situation of children and families in Gaza Strip has become catastrophic after more than five months of continuous war, noting that the situation is getting worse in every day this war continues.

Owais added that children do not have access to basic services such as food, medicine, water and sanitation, in addition to the physical and psychological impact they are exposed to and there is a sharp rise in acute malnutrition among children, especially in northern Gaza Strip, and this requires an unhindered increase in humanitarian assistance in order to preserve everyone’s lives before a further disaster occurs.
He stressed that any military operation in Rafah puts more than 600,000 children at risk, as it is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with 20,000 people per square kilometer.
