The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, announced on Wednesday that 4 out of 5 school buildings in the Gaza Strip have been directly bombed or damaged and are in need of repair.
Lazzarini said in a statement on the X platform that 625,000 children in Gaza, including 300,000 UNRWA students, lost a full school year due to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Students in the Gaza Strip lost the 2023-2024 academic year due to the devastating war waged by Israel since the seventh of October.
According to a statement from the government’s media office in Gaza, the Israeli army completely destroyed more than 120 schools and universities, while 332 educational institutions were partially destroyed.
Lazzarini has previously pointed out that the continuation of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip means the destruction of the entire community and called for an immediate ceasefire.
