The director general of the government media office in Gaza, Ismail Al-Thawabtah, said that the real number of martyrs in the Gaza Strip may have exceeded 50,000, in light of the thousands of missing under the rubble of buildings destroyed since the start of the Israeli aggression on the besieged strip.
He added that the war of extermination waged by the occupation in the Gaza Strip targets various segments of society, stressing the martyrdom of more than 885 doctors and nurses, more than 168 journalists and media professionals, more than 79 civil defense officers, more than 100 scientists, intellectuals and university professors, 9,000 students, and 500 teachers.
Al-Thawabtah also confirmed to Al Jazeera that the occupation army destroyed more than 80% of the medical equipment in the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that the number of martyrs exceeded 40,000 since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Strip, while the number of wounded reached 92,401.
Mads Gilbert, head of the Norwegian medical team to the Gaza Strip, said the estimated number of martyrs in Gaza would be three times higher than the announced number.
