A report by the American magazine Scope on Sunday described that “the Israeli aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip has become a war on Palestinian children,” noting that they are deprived of the vaccine, hungry and suffering from orphanhood and diseases.
In August, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for a seven-day ceasefire to allow children in Gaza to be vaccinated against polio. He appealed to all parties to provide concrete guarantees immediately and ensure humanitarian pauses for the campaign.”
“The challenge of saving Gaza’s children has been complicated by the continued dropping of Israeli bombs on every part of Gaza, including the so-called ‘safe zones’, which Israel declared shortly after the war began, and the other problem is that Gaza has been living for months without electricity, without an effective cooling system, so most vaccines may become unusable,” he said.
At least 16,480 children were killed as a direct result of the war, with thousands more still missing, presumed dead.
In addition to thousands more still missing, presumed dead, this number, according to the Palestinian Minister of Health in Gaza, includes 115 children, many of whom have died of starvation, and “at least 3,500 children in Gaza face (the same fate) amid food shortages and malnutrition under Israeli restrictions on food delivery.”
