UNRWA: A year of brutal war turned Gaza into a sea of rubble

The commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said: “A year of brutal war turns the Gaza Strip into a graveyard for tens of thousands of Palestinians, including too many children.”

“It has been a year in which families in Gaza are subjected to untold suffering on a daily basis, with forced displacement, disease, hunger and death becoming the daily norm for two million people trapped in a devastated enclave,” Lazzarini said in a statement.

“A year of brutal war is turning the Gaza Strip into an unrecognizable sea of rubble and a graveyard for tens of thousands of Palestinians, including too many children.”

He stressed that the destruction of basic infrastructure has reached catastrophic levels, stressing that “in Gaza, civilians continue to bear the brunt of war.”
