UN: Zionist attacks damaged 99 health facilities in Lebanon

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric expressed concern over the escalating Zionist attacks on the health system in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Dujarric said in a statement on Tuesday that, according to the Lebanese authorities, 36 incidents were reported in which Zionist raids targeted healthcare facilities between the eighth of October last year and the fourth of October of this month.

Dujarric said at least 96 primary health care centers and three hospitals had been forced to close due to “hostilities,” referring to the Zionist bombardment of Beirut’s southern suburbs.

He added that the attacks affected not only facilities but also health workers, with “the World Health Organization estimating the number of health workers killed in the same period at 77 people.”

He explained that the ongoing “hostilities” and displacement orders continue to cause the displacement of people, especially from the south of the country and the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, where the International Organization for Migration has recorded more than 540,000 displaced people since the eighth of October 2023.
