With a clumsy report and a worn-out formulation, the UN has driven another nail into the coffin of its relationship with Yemen. So, what are the repercussions of the recent report by international experts?
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
For the first time since its formation years ago, the team of international experts on Yemen is revealing its true face, having become just another channel for American, British, and Saudi propaganda against Yemen, putting the UN and its body in Yemen to the brink of a precipice.
Over the past years, the team has been trying to portray itself as neutral, albeit by subtly highlighting certain aspects of the war and siege on Yemen, but today it has officially adopted this approach.
There is nothing new in the report, as everything presented by the experts has been promoted by the US envoy and ambassadors of the US, Britain, the West, and even Saudi Arabia and the UAE, from the relationship between the Ansar Allah movement and “Al-Qaeda” to reaping huge profits from Yemeni operations in the Red Sea and allegations about storing weapons in the port of Hudaydah, which is originally under the supervision of the international mission, and using Sana’a airport to send fighters for training in Iran, passing through regional and international relations in Sana’a.
All that the report contains is mere lies and deception, according to experts, and it is clear in the report that its recommendations are not only biased but also reflect a deep-seated animosity towards Yemen. Notably, the report goes so far as to advocate for the shutdown of Yemeni activists’ social media pages.
The UN has never before sunk to this quagmire in its history, even with Saudi Arabia itself being active during the war years known for its “cheque diplomacy” and injecting millions of dollars to its members and organizations. But this time, the report indicates that the international team for Yemen has become a free-for-all and just another sanitation, and it is time to close it.
For Yemen in general and Sana’a in particular, the report is not surprising in the context of the war it is facing and is being financed by the most powerful countries economically, but what is flawed in it, as officials here say, is that the Saudi ambassador’s wording was prominent in it, and the report was not even subjected to revision.
In reality, the report is a product of American and British propaganda that has recently emerged in the Security Council, aiming to pressure Yemen to halt operations against Israeli occupation. In terms of timing, it coincides with American and British mobilizations also to escalate on the western coast of Yemen. While it will not change the situation on the ground, it may prompt Sana’a towards more hardline policies towards dealing with the UN and its bodies, as they are currently leading the escalation by justifying the blockade and creating international cover for the upcoming war.
