UNRWA: Hunger in Gaza has reached critical levels

UNRWA warned of the repercussions of hunger in the Gaza Strip reaching critical levels, calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The UN agency said in a statement on the X platform: “Hunger in Gaza has reached critical levels, with people looking for leftovers in waste that is weeks old.”

“As winter approaches, the situation is rapidly deteriorating and survival is impossible without urgent humanitarian assistance.”

“There must be a ceasefire now,” the agency concluded.
UNRWA attached its statement to photographs showing the sheer volume of waste on a street in the Strip.

Famine has worsened in most areas of the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli blockade, especially in the north, while all areas of the Gaza Strip are experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, coinciding with the advent of winter for the second consecutive year on about two million displaced people, most of whom are sleeping in tents.
