Gaza – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, affirmed today, Saturday, that the Agency has been the faithful guarantor of the identity and history of Palestinian refugees for 75 years.
In a statement published on the “X” platform, Lazzarini explained that UNRWA has archived the records of Palestinian refugee families and preserved them over the past decades. He added that the agency’s teams succeeded in transferring thousands of archival files from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to safe places and converting them to digital format, emphasizing that this process is essential to protect the rights of Palestinian refugees under international law.
He pointed out that the time has come to reach a peaceful diplomatic solution to end the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” including addressing the refugee issue in a radical way.
UNRWA is a vital organization that supports more than 1.7 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan, providing life-saving social services and humanitarian assistance.
Lazzarini referred to the sacrifices made by the organization, as it lost 233 of its members in Gaza since the beginning of the latest Israeli aggression.
He also warned that the cessation of UNRWA’s work would have disastrous consequences, especially in the Gaza Strip, in light of the ongoing Israeli siege that aims to undermine the last lifeline for Palestinian refugees.
UNRWA is the trustworthy guardian of the Palestinian refugees’ identity and rights
