The head of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) said Thursday that “the humanitarian catastrophe continues” in Gaza despite the truce, calling for facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the devastated enclave.
After a field visit, Jorge Moreira da Silva, who is also an assistant to the UN secretary-general, said: “In addition to the immense human suffering, it has also witnessed an unimaginable degree of destruction of infrastructure and homes, and an enormous amount of rubble.”
He warned that it would take years to remove debris and rubble from the conflict, calling for a “sustainable ceasefire”, “the immediate release of all hostages” and the “unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid”.
