Hamas has warned of a “new famine” in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli blockade and starvation policies, even during the month of Ramadan, amidst the international community’s silence.
Abdul Latif Al-Qanou, a spokesman for the movement, said in a statement that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip “have been suffering under a tight blockade for the second week, with the (Israeli) occupation preventing the entry of food, medicine, fuel, and essential supplies,” which constitutes “a new starvation crime.”
Al-Qanou considered the Israeli occupation’s actions a “new starvation crime” against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
He added, “The coming few days will witness a shortage of essential supplies and food commodities in the Gaza Strip, which will increase the suffering of the population and exacerbate their crisis.”
He addressed the international community, warning, “Unless the international community assumes its responsibilities toward the Gaza Strip, its residents will suffer famine again during the month of Ramadan.”
In this context, Al-Qanou called on mediators to “exert more pressure on the Israeli occupation to open the crossings, allow the flow of humanitarian aid, and halt the policy of collective punishment against our people.”
