Gaza Municipality warns of a major thirst crisis

The Gaza Municipality warned of a severe water crisis that could lead to severe thirst due to Israel’s continued closure of crossings, its ban on fuel imports, and its threat to stop a water pipeline that supplies the city with most of its daily needs.

The municipality said in a statement that “the Mekorot pipeline supplies approximately 70% of Gaza’s water. If water from this pipeline is stopped, it could lead to severe thirst in the city, threatening human life, deteriorating public health, and the spread of disease.”

The Israeli water company, Mekorot, is one of the main sources of water supply to the Gaza Strip, which is under complete Israeli control, making it a tool of pressure on the Strip.
