Hunger is getting worse in Gaza

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that thousands of Gazans are once again facing the risk of acute hunger and malnutrition as food stocks in the Strip dwindle and the border is closed to aid. Meanwhile, expanding military activity in Gaza is severely hampering food assistance operations and endangering the lives of aid workers.

In a statement on the latest developments on food security in Gaza, WFP stated that it and its partners have been unable to bring new food supplies into Gaza for more than three weeks, noting that the closure of border crossings is preventing the entry of any goods—humanitarian or commercial.

WFP explained that it has approximately 5,700 tons of food stocks remaining in Gaza—sufficient to support its operations for a maximum of two weeks. With the deteriorating security situation, rapid population displacement, and growing needs, the UN agency has decided to distribute as much food as possible, as quickly as possible.
