The Israeli occupation destroyed 90% of the residential neighborhoods in Rafah

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip said on Sunday that the Israeli army had destroyed an area of 12,000 square meters in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, wiping out 90 percent of the city’s residential neighborhoods since the start of the war on October 7, 2023.

This came in a statement issued by the office via Telegram, stating that Israel had destroyed 85 percent of the sewage networks in Rafah, “turning it into an environment conducive to the spread of epidemics and diseases.”

Due to the Israeli war of extermination, all 12 medical centers in Rafah were completely out of service, most notably the Martyr Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital, which the occupation forces destroyed with an explosive robot, as well as the Maternity Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital, according to the statement.

Israel completely destroyed eight schools and educational institutions, inflicting severe damage on the remaining schools and educational institutions, and completely or severely destroying more than 100 mosques.

According to the statement, the Israeli army also razed tens of thousands of dunams of agricultural land in Rafah and destroyed 30 of the governorate’s 36 headquarters, including the main headquarters of the Rafah municipality.

In the governorate, which covers 60 square kilometers and is home to approximately 300,000 people, representing approximately 16 percent of the Gaza Strip’s area, the Israeli army bombed hospitals, bulldozed streets, destroyed buildings, and wiped out mosques, markets, and public squares, according to the statement.

According to the statement, Israel destroyed 22 of 24 water wells, including the main “Canada Well” and the distribution pumps, depriving tens of thousands of families of potable water.

The governorate suffered the destruction of more than 85 percent of its sewage networks, transforming the city into an “infectious environment susceptible to the spread of epidemics and diseases,” in addition to the complete destruction and demolition of 320 kilometers of roads, according to the statement.
