Tweeters reacted to painful scenes circulating from the Gaza Strip, showing the deadly price civilians are paying for humanitarian aid, amid the ongoing blockade and Israeli obstruction of aid delivery.
The scene at the gates of aid distribution centers in the Gaza Strip has become a daily tragedy, as thousands of Palestinians crowd into food rations distributed by the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” supported by the US and Israel.
The long lines have become no less dangerous than a real battle, with daily reports documenting gunfire targeting those waiting near the centers.
But the most painful scene was embodied in a recently circulated video of a father carrying the body of his son after he was targeted by Israeli forces while waiting for aid in the Zikim area, north of the besieged Gaza Strip.
This heartbreaking scene came in the context of Israel’s continued obstruction of humanitarian aid convoys, according to Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.
Figures released by the World Hunger Monitor reveal another dimension to the tragedy, stating that more than a quarter of Gaza’s population is facing famine conditions.
