After the Israeli army expanded its ground operations in Gaza City, which is under continuous bombardment on Tuesday (September 16, 2025), UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that Israel is determined to “go all the way” to its military campaign in Gaza and is “not open to serious peace talks for a ceasefire.”
Guterres stated in a press conference on Tuesday that what is happening in Gaza City is horrific and that the war in the Palestinian territories is morally, politically, and legally unacceptable. Guterres also expressed his willingness to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump at the United Nations next week.
