Protesters against the Israeli offensive on Gaza clashed with police in Milan and other Italian cities on Monday, while tens of thousands demonstrated in Rome and port workers blocked roads in solidarity with the Palestinians.
A Reuters witness reported that riot police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators at Milan’s central station. Some protesters, dressed in black, and others waving the Palestinian flag, smashed a window in the station and threw a chair at police during the clashes.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that more than 10 people were arrested in Milan, while approximately 60 police officers sustained bruises and more serious injuries.
The protests are part of a general strike called by labor unions to protest the mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza.
