WHO: More than 16,000 patients in Gaza need urgent evacuation amid medicine shortages

The World Health Organization’s representative in Palestine, Rick Pepperkorn, revealed that more than 16,500 patients in the Gaza Strip are still awaiting medical evacuation for treatment outside the Strip.

Pepperkorn confirmed during a press conference in Geneva that only half of Gaza’s hospitals are partially operational, with 18 out of 36 hospitals still providing limited services.

He added that since the ceasefire began, 26 health care points have reopened, in addition to the establishment of 8 new ones.

He explained that the WHO has been able to deliver 2,050 packages of medical supplies to Gaza since the ceasefire took effect, noting that 343 out of 622 items on the Palestinian Ministry of Health’s essential medicines list have reached critically low levels.
