Gaza is experiencing dire humanitarian conditions as the storm that struck the Strip yesterday intensifies, exacerbating the already precarious situation in the camps and leaving thousands of families without heating or shelter.
Medical sources reported that an eight-month-old Palestinian baby died in Khan Younis due to the extreme cold, highlighting the immense risks faced by children and displaced people living in tents that lack even the most basic protection from the elements.
Millions of Gazans, living in tents and shelters, are suffering from shortages of fuel, heating, and healthcare, while the polar storm is expected to continue until Friday, according to the meteorological service.
The Civil Defense reported that thousands of tents have been flooded and that it has received over a thousand distress calls, amid urgent appeals for mobile homes to prevent the disaster from worsening.
The Gaza Municipality warned of the dangers posed by the storm, given the widespread damage to infrastructure, noting that 85% of its equipment is out of service, hindering its efforts to assist residents. It also called for the provision of emergency equipment and the rehabilitation of sewage and rainwater drainage networks.
In the same context, the Palestinian government appealed to international organizations to provide immediate shelter supplies to the most affected families.
