Hamas warns of worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to new weather system

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem warned of a worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip following the arrival of a new storm that flooded the tents of thousands of displaced people, whose shelters lacked even the most basic protection from the elements.

In a statement released Monday evening, Qassem emphasized that the plight of the displaced is deteriorating further as they live in dilapidated tents that offer no protection from the rain or cold, exacerbating their daily suffering.

He added that previous warnings and appeals for the delivery of suitable shelter materials and the commencement of reconstruction efforts have so far gone unanswered.

He pointed to the international community’s failure to break the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, considering this a direct contribution to deepening the worsening humanitarian crisis.

Qassem called on the mediators and guarantor states of the ceasefire agreement, along with the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to take urgent and responsible action to save the residents of the Gaza Strip from an imminent humanitarian catastrophe and to end the international silence regarding the suffering of civilians.

For days, hundreds of tents have been flooded in several areas of the Gaza Strip due to heavy rains, leaving displaced people living in dire conditions due to the inadequacy and lack of resources of the civil defense teams.
