Infant Mohammed Abu Harbid died as a result of the extreme cold

On Saturday evening, two-month-old Mohammed Wissam Abu Harbid died in Gaza City due to the extreme cold, amidst the deteriorating humanitarian situation resulting from the Israeli occupation’s failure to fulfill its responsibilities regarding relief, shelter, and reconstruction.

The child’s death comes within the context of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where the destruction of infrastructure and the continued restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and shelter materials have exposed children and the elderly to serious health risks.

Earlier on Saturday, a seven-day-old Palestinian infant also died from the severe cold gripping the Gaza Strip, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian conditions faced by displaced people living in dilapidated tents that lack even the most basic protection from the elements, especially during the winter season.

Despite the ceasefire agreement of October 10, 2015, the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has not seen any tangible improvement due to the occupation authorities’ failure to uphold their commitments, and its repercussions have intensified with the onset of cold weather.
