United Nations: More than one million people in Gaza urgently need shelter

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned on Tuesday of the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, describing it as dire.

The office explained that more than one million people in the Strip are in urgent need of shelter support, given the widespread destruction of residential areas and the severe shortage of basic necessities.

OCHA stressed the need for sustainable solutions to meet the population’s needs, including providing tools to repair damaged homes, materials to build communal heating facilities, and equipment for debris removal.

OCHA noted that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners were able to reach more than 7,500 families last week, distributing tents, plastic sheeting, insulation materials, mattresses, and blankets, in addition to providing winter clothing to approximately 1,400 children across the Gaza Strip.
