The US Assistant Secretary of Defense admits his forces’ inability to counter weapons possessed by Iran

A hearing held by the Senate Armed Services Committee confirmed that the US military lacks effective systems to counter hypersonic weapons and modern cruise missiles, all of which are weapons possessed by Iran, which is currently in conflict with the US.

This was stated by the US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, Mark Berkowitz, who was summoned to the session to discuss the new US missile defense system project known as “Golden Dome” of the next generation.

The US official explained that his country’s current defensive capabilities in the missile field remain very limited.

He indicated that the currently available ground-based system is single-tiered and was originally designed to handle sudden, limited attacks possibly originating from North Korea.

The US Assistant Secretary of Defense, Berkowitz, added that the US has only very limited capabilities to counter other types of ballistic missile attacks.

He also noted that Washington still lacks adequate defense means against hypersonic weapons, as well as advanced cruise missiles.
