American Newspaper: Decline in Navigation Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz

The New York Times reported on Saturday a decline in navigation traffic in the Strait of Hormuz due to escalating tension between America and Iran.

The newspaper warned in its report that shipping companies’ reluctance to cross the strait could lead to a slowdown in oil and gas flows from the Gulf.

The CEO of Stealth Gas, Harry Vafias, stated that the company postponed the passage of one of its ships due to renewed tension, affirming that the situation in the strait is “getting worse minute by minute.”

The newspaper affirmed that the stability of the global energy market remains dependent on restoring the Strait of Hormuz as a safe and reliable passage for commercial navigation.

This comes as tension returns to the Strait of Hormuz, following the American forces’ attempt to impose a new route for ship movement without coordination with the Iranian authorities, which contradicts the memorandum of understanding to end the war that grants Iran the authority to coordinate the passage of ships in the vital strait.
