Israeli occupation authorities released seven Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip on Monday, after they had served varying periods of detention in Israeli prisons.
The released prisoners arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, accompanied by staff from the International Committee of the Red Cross, according to local sources. The occupation authorities continue to release limited numbers of prisoners from the Gaza Strip periodically. Most of these prisoners arrive in the Strip in poor health due to medical neglect, malnutrition, and torture in prisons.
Data from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club shows that the number of prisoners in Israeli prisons exceeds 9,400, including approximately 1,250 detainees from the Gaza Strip classified as “unlawful combatants,” in addition to 99 female prisoners and about 350 children.
