Iranian Source: Washington Made a Concession to Tehran Regarding the Strait of Hormuz

Al-Mayadeen channel reported, citing an Iranian source on Monday, that the United States has made a concession to Tehran regarding the closure of the southern route in the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that Iran responded by refusing to reopen the strait until the war is completely over.

The source explained that Washington, over the past weeks, pushed ships to transit through passages that Tehran described as “illegal” in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to some of them being involved in incidents and others being returned to Gulf waters, amid the continued closure of the strait.

According to the source, Washington has agreed to the closure of those passages that Iran rejects and which violate Article 5 of the memorandum of understanding. However, Iran links the reopening of the strait to the complete end of the war.

The source affirmed Iran’s insistence on its right to manage navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the Sultanate of Oman and the region’s countries, based on the memorandum of understanding signed last June.
