Nineteen cities around the world, including Istanbul, are preparing to hold simultaneous demonstrations next Wednesday, which coincides with World Humanitarian Day, to demand the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, given the ongoing Israeli blockade and restrictions imposed on the territory.
Osman Nuri Kabak Tepe, head of the Palestine Support Platform, stated during a press conference held by Turkish civil society organizations in Istanbul on Monday that the demonstrations will take place simultaneously in 19 cities to raise awareness and demand guaranteed access to food, medicine, shelter, and healthcare for the residents of Gaza.
He explained that the event planned for Istanbul will be held in Üsküdar Square on the Asian side of the city at 6:30 PM local time (3:30 PM GMT).
Participants in the conference included Kemal Özdal, head of the Sadaka Taşı Association; Ahmet Göksun, Secretary General of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH); and Mehmet Cengiz, head of the Deniz Feneri Association. Qabq Taba emphasized that the world is witnessing an unprecedented deprivation of civilians of their basic needs, stressing that the delivery of food, medicine, shelter, and healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a favor.
He pointed out that tens of thousands of civilians have lost their lives in Gaza, while children, the sick, women, and the most vulnerable groups face increasing difficulties in accessing food, medicine, and other basic necessities.
