The Public Bus Owners Syndicate in the Gaza Strip announced on Monday the suspension of its service transporting medical staff to their workplaces due to a lack of operating and maintenance supplies for the buses. The Ministry of Health warned that this move threatens an imminent paralysis of the transportation system.
In a statement, the head of the syndicate, Anwar Abu Al-Abla, said that the service transporting medical staff to their workplaces in government and international hospitals and medical centers would be suspended starting Wednesday.
He explained that this “forced” decision came after “exhausting all available means to ensure the continuation of the service,” and given the lack of “the necessary operating and maintenance supplies to guarantee the safety of the buses.”
The syndicate reiterated its appeal to relevant authorities and humanitarian and international organizations to intervene urgently and provide the necessary maintenance supplies to allow the service to resume and prevent its complete shutdown.
The Gaza Strip is suffering from a severe transportation crisis, exacerbated by the widespread destruction of streets, roads, and vehicles during nearly three years of the genocidal war launched by Israel in October 2013.
The Strip is also experiencing shortages of fuel, oil, and spare parts needed to maintain vehicles and generators, which are essential for vital sectors, particularly hospitals and health centers.
