The Palestinian Prisoners and Freed Prisoners Affairs Authority warned about the deteriorating health and living conditions of Palestinian female prisoners in Damon prison, due to the ongoing policy of starving them and depriving them of medical treatment, in addition to subjecting them to acts of oppression and physical and psychological abuse, which pose risks that threaten their lives and safety.
In a statement released today, Wednesday, the authority highlighted the testimonies of two female prisoners that reveal part of the harsh conditions they face, as they are denied necessary medical care, have their food portions reduced, face strict movement restrictions, and are deprived of even the most basic living rights.
The testimony of prisoner Hanaa Mohammed Hassan Al-Baydaq, who has been detained since September 7, 2025, revealed a deterioration in her health due to the lack of specialized medical follow-up, despite her suffering before her arrest from thyroid insufficiency and needing regular tests to determine the appropriate treatment doses. Since her detention, Al-Baydaq has not been examined by an endocrinologist. She has also been suffering from scabies since last July without receiving the necessary treatment, which caused persistent itching and pain. She has lost about 42 kilograms since entering prison due to malnutrition and the lack of food and its low nutritional value. Regarding assaults in prison, the committee reported that Al-Baydaq and her fellow prisoners were subjected to a crackdown on October 8, carried out by the Yamaz units of the occupation’s prison administration, with the participation of the prison officer. This included having the prisoners’ hands tied behind their backs, covering their eyes, beating them, releasing gas in the rooms, and verbally insulting and humiliating them.
