Mukalla: Hadrami Elite Opened Fire at Protesters

Elements of the so-called “Hadrami Elite” funded by the UAE on Tuesday evening opened fire at protesters demanding the provision of electricity in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.

Human rights sources in the city confirmed that the Hadrami elite troops, backed by forces from the “Second Military Region” led by Governor Faraj al-Bahsani, fired on protesters in “Al-Sayyadin” neighborhood, who demanded the provision of basic services, including electricity, without reporting any injuries.

The sources said that the demonstrators blocked some main roads with stones and set fire to damaged tires, as an expression of their anger at the continued power cuts for more than 14 hours per day since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

The protesters are calling for the departure of the province’s local authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, which are unable to provide fuel for the power stations in the largest oil-rich province in Yemen.
