WHO: Situation in Gaza is “getting worse”

A World Health Organization (WHO) official in Gaza announced on Tuesday that the situation in the Strip is getting worse every hour as Israel intensifies its bombing of the south around the cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah.

“The situation is getting worse by the hour,” Richard Peppercorn, the organization’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, told reporters via video link from Gaza. He added, “The bombing is intensifying everywhere, including the southern areas of Khan Yunis and even Rafah.”

Last night and Tuesday morning, Khan Yunis Governorate was subjected to one of the heaviest aerial and artillery bombardment campaigns since the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip two months ago. Many civilians fled their homes and even schools, where they had taken refuge earlier in the war, as the bombing intensified.
