Gaza Municipality continues initial waste collection

Gaza Municipality announced yesterday that it is continuing, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, to implement the initial waste collection project from the city’s streets to alleviate the health and environmental disaster in the city. And the municipality said, in a press release, that “waste is collected from the streets and houses in the areas that the municipality’s crews are able to reach due to the continuation of the aggression, and the municipality’s crews are unable to reach large areas of the city now.”

She added, “The work is carried out on a daily basis, and the waste is collected and transported to temporary landfills in the land of Firas Market and the Yarmouk station in the city center, due to the occupation’s prevention of the municipality’s crews from reaching the landfill, east of the city.” According to the municipality, “the city is experiencing a major health and environmental disaster, due to the accumulation of about 175,000 tons of waste in the heart of the city, and the destruction of most of the waste collection and vital and service facilities.”

The Gaza Municipality called on the international and competent authorities to take urgent action, save the catastrophic conditions in the city, help provide mechanisms, and enable access to the landfill in  Juhr al-Deek area.
