The Kuwait Specialized Field Hospital in Al-Mawasi area, southwest of the Gaza Strip, announced the suspension of all scheduled surgeries and the resumption of life-saving operations due to a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies. It warned of a total collapse of the healthcare system with the increase in complex injuries and the overcrowding of displaced people.
The field hospital said in a statement on Saturday: “We announce with deep regret that we are forced to suspend all scheduled surgeries and will only perform life-saving operations.”
It attributed this step to “the severe and ongoing shortage of medicines and medical supplies, as well as equipment and devices that have deteriorated over the past two years, in addition to the significant shortage of basic medical supplies, including anesthesia medications, medical solutions, sterilization materials and supplies, and necessary surgical instruments.”
The hospital confirmed that since Israel resumed its genocide in the Gaza Strip on March 18, it has “not received sufficient medical aid to meet the growing needs, despite repeated appeals,” according to the statement.
He called on relevant authorities and international organizations to “immediately intervene to open humanitarian corridors to ensure the delivery of necessary medicines and medical supplies, and to help cover the hospital’s operational costs.”
