Thousands of patients in Gaza are waiting for death or permission to travel

Palestinian child Lian Barhoum can no longer bear the repercussions of the Israeli war that continues to haunt her, even after the ceasefire agreement was declared more than three months ago.

Lian was already suffering from kidney dysfunction, but it has now progressed to complete kidney failure due to inhaling gas and missile smoke during the war, according to Al Jazeera.

The Palestinian child, who is also deaf, has developed an enlarged liver and now faces a serious threat from the extreme cold, which has left her unable to walk.

Lian lives in a tent lacking even the most basic heating, as the Gaza Strip suffers from a severe shortage of blankets and fuel. She cannot leave Gaza to receive medical treatment because Israel has closed the Rafah border crossing, which represents the only lifeline for her and many other children and patients in the Strip.

Thousands of children, wounded individuals, and patients are enduring harsh humanitarian conditions inside dilapidated tents that offer no protection from the cold or rain, especially those near the coast in the western part of the Gaza Strip. At least 10 children have died as a result of the recent cold snap, sources confirmed they froze to death due to the extreme cold. With overcrowding, diseases are spreading rapidly, including meningitis, which Nour says has begun to spread extensively and recently claimed the life of a child.

At least 100,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition, according to UNICEF, in addition to other winter illnesses.
