The only functioning oxygen plant in Gaza City has shut down

The Ministry of Health in Gaza issued a press statement warning of the imminent shutdown of the only oxygen generation plant operating in the Gaza and North Gaza governorates. This plant is the primary source of oxygen for patients, particularly those with chronic illnesses, and also supplies medical oxygen to non-governmental health organizations.

The Ministry explained that the plant suffers from frequent breakdowns due to high pressure and long operating hours, coupled with a lack of sufficient alternatives. This threatens to cut off the supply of medical oxygen and puts patients’ lives at serious risk.

The Ministry indicated that the worsening situation portends an imminent humanitarian catastrophe, especially given the increasing need for oxygen in hospitals and health centers.

The Ministry called upon all relevant authorities and international organizations to intervene urgently to bring in new oxygen generation plants and ensure a sustainable supply of medical oxygen to health facilities, thereby protecting patients’ lives and guaranteeing the continuity of healthcare services.
