The Bloomberg agency revealed on Friday that the UAE attempted to drag Gulf countries into the war with Iran during the recent escalation, but it was unsuccessful.
Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
According to the agency, the UAE tried to convince neighboring Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, to coordinate a military response to Iranian missile and drone attacks during the recent war, but Abu Dhabi’s leadership felt frustrated after those countries refused to participate.
The agency added that Mohammed bin Zayed made several phone calls to Gulf leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, shortly after “Israel” and the United States began striking Iran on February 28.
Bloomberg reported that bin Zayed was convinced of the need to coordinate a retaliatory response to deter Iran and began working on this approach in coordination with the Trump administration and the Israeli government, while leaders of other countries informed him that this was not their war.
It indicated that the Trump administration was aware of the Emirati proposal and tried to push Saudi Arabia and Qatar to join it.
The agency interpreted this information as a reason for the UAE’s subsequent anger with its neighbors and its decision to withdraw from OPEC and OPEC+ in late last April, coinciding with the growing relationship with “Israel.”
It noted that the UAE carried out limited attacks against Iran during March and April, while Saudi Arabia took unilateral strikes then later changed its position and supported mediation efforts between the US and Iran, and Qatar also studied launching strikes before backing down and choosing de-escalation.
