Saudi Arabia reactivated the UN mediation in Yemen on Tuesday amid fears of wider escalation.
This follows the exchange of attacks between the two parties.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The UN Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced his visit to the Omani capital, Muscat, where the Sana’a negotiating delegation is based, indicating that he held meetings with Omani officials and the head of the Sana’a delegation, Mohammed Abdul Salam.
Grundberg stated that he focused on requesting de-escalation and reaching an agreed-upon path to maintain the relative calm witnessed in Yemen since the truce agreement.
Although Grundberg did not clarify the details of the offer, his talk of an agreed-upon path indicates an offer for a deal regarding the lifting of the siege on Sana’a Airport.
Saudi Arabia’s move to activate the envoy came following new confrontations.
The Yemeni forces launched a missile attack on Saudi facilities in response to the bombing of Sana’a Airport.
The activation of the UN mediation in Yemen indicates Saudi Arabia’s avoidance of further escalation in Yemen and its attempt to reach a new agreement regarding the recently raised issues.
