The Prisoners’ Media Office documented a significant escalation in violations against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons during July, including torture, starvation, medical neglect, and solitary confinement, coinciding with an unprecedented rise in the number of detainees.
In a research paper released Tuesday, the office stated that the number of prisoners reached 9,400, including 94 female prisoners, 350 children, 3,244 administrative detainees, and 1,320 detainees held under the so-called “Unlawful Combatant Law.” The number of arrests since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip has exceeded 24,600.
The paper also documented an escalation in repressive measures within the prisons, including raids on prison sections, physical assaults on prisoners, the use of rubber bullets and police dogs, as well as solitary confinement and humiliating searches.
The report confirmed the continued violations against female prisoners in Damon Prison, including the spread of diseases and medical neglect, and documented instances of physical and sexual torture, particularly against detainees from the Gaza Strip.
