The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, confirmed that approximately 94% of Gaza’s population, numbering 2.1 million people—nearly two million Palestinians—are in urgent need of shelter and basic household assistance.

Dujarric explained in a press conference that the emergency response plan to provide shelter in the sector requires $562 million, while less than a quarter of this amount has been secured so far, placing humanitarian response efforts before a significant shortfall.
He pointed out that about two-thirds of families in Gaza are currently living in tents or temporary shelters, whose conditions are rapidly deteriorating due to harsh weather conditions.
The UN official affirmed that the restrictions imposed on the entry of equipment and shelter materials, along with the continued funding shortfall, have limited the ability of relief agencies to provide basic needs to the population.
He added that humanitarian agencies face great difficulties in bringing in tents, plastic sheeting, and mobile housing units, at a time when the sector needs more than 300,000 tents and temporary shelter units to provide the minimum level of protection for affected families.
This comes as the occupation continues its policy of siege, assassinations, and obstructing the implementation of the ceasefire and reconstruction agreement, with the aim of pressuring the residents of the sector and forcing them to leave Gaza.
