Report: Saudi Oil Stockpiles Threatened with Depletion Within Days

Press reports warned on Sunday that Saudi Arabia’s oil stockpiles designated for export may run out within days if the operation of the main pipeline leading to the Red Sea, which was recently targeted, is not resumed.

Reuters quoted informed sources as saying that repairing the damage to the pipeline may take between five and six weeks, at a time when the International Energy Agency confirmed a decline in global oil supplies this year by 5.7 million barrels per day.

These developments come after the Saudi Ministry of Energy acknowledged that the “East-West” pipeline was targeted on Thursday morning and was halted “as a precautionary measure,” after thermal images captured by satellites revealed unprecedented readings along its route.

The “East-West” pipeline relies on transporting more than five million barrels per day from the eastern fields to Yanbu port, making it a strategic artery to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Its long halt may push the Kingdom to sharply reduce its exports, amid escalating pressures on global energy markets.
